Three Poems by Carl Scharwath

These three poems by Carl Scharwath aim to soften life’s regrets in ruminations of happy memories of time spent together…

My Daughter's Window

For a moment
Frozen at the window
A peaceful vision glorifies

The placid tree thrusts into
Our luminous sky,
Letting go in death.

Dull gold leaf’s
Dancing slowly
To their graves of memories.
Living Life in Reverse
(Dedicated to my best friend in high school Ronald Legan)

YES, why not? The clock can turn
Slowly backwards from death to birth.
Not for any devious reasons-
Lottery tickets, the stock market and first date
Do over conversations come to mind.

NO, this about second chances,
Not to construct a better version of yourself
Nor to right a wrong-sorry this was
Already determined in the gift
Called free-will and cannot be changed.

This is life in reverse for those you have lost
A way to be there for them and celebrate your
Time together again. To laugh, to love and
Hold the fabric of these moments in a way
That will never give thoughts of regret.
The New Children of Summer

The children of summer embrace in the moonless evening
Inside their souls-speaking meanings to never forget
The unequal and the unlike strive together.

Helping each other in the confidence
That this beneficial relationship
Will be eternal and have meaning.

Rejoice-
            Rejoice-
                        Tomorrow is yours.

An epicene beauty beholds you
Dawn delivers an exciting change
Championed in your numbers as voices rise.

Expostulating with an abstract ideal
The sirens of the elite are calling you
To the cliffs of prospective hope?
