Those bittersweet moments, when it’s over, but they’re still there…
We sat in the diner
looking at each other
across the table.
It was time for you to go.
You asked me why it had been one year since we met.
I didn’t have an answer.
I wanted to reach across the table
and grab your face.
I wanted to kiss you,
to taste your mouth.
I wanted to hold you,
and never let you go.
Instead I sat there looking into your eyes,
dark deep blue,
so much pain
inside them.
I wanted to heal you
with my hands.
I wanted to take my hand and place it inside your chest cavity,
feel your heart beating in my hands,
hold it with both hands,
and let them heal the pain.
Don’t you know?
You must realize
just
how
much
I love you.
It was time to leave
time to let you go.
I watched you walk away from me
not knowing if I would ever see you again.

Beautiful, Sarah. I’m sorry you had to endure the pain to make it.
